About Dr. Michael
Dr. Michael was raised by a child psychiatrist (an early practitioner of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and a social psychologist (fascinated by the formation of identity) and as a young child for three years attended a school run by eight of Anna Freud’s former trainees then analysts. He began his own work in mental health as a child care worker living and working in a residential treatment center for non-delinquent children.
Dr. Michael graduated Summa cum Laude from college being the first recipient of the Muller Memorial Scholarship Award in Psychology. He then went on to earn two Master’s, and a Ph.D. in Clinical/Community Psychology, as well as being certified in Logoanalysis. He followed this by working for the Department of Defense in Europe through a joint appointment at the University of Maryland to the faculties of psychology and computer science, and has also taught in the graduate school at the University of Washington.
Dr. Michael received a two year Senior Fellowship at the University of Washington School of Medicine, and was part of the team awarded the Hospital and Community Psychiatry Gold Program Award of the American Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Michael has been in private practice since 1987, given psychological testimony numerous times to the State Legislature, received the Washington State Psychological Association’s President’s Award, and served on the Board of several organizations, including the Washington State Psychological Association, the Pride Foundation, and as a founding member of the Puget Sound Group Psychotherapy Association. He has been interviewed on the radio, tv news, by authors, and by politicians.
Dr. Michael is licensed in the State of Washington and certified by The National Registry of Health Service Providers in Psychology, and The Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards.
